Donkey Screams II

(Continued from Donkey Screams in the Night)

After surviving a fitful night's sleep locked alone in the wilderness, waking up was no problem. As the sun (finally) broke over the horizon we were already packed up and ready to make a run for it, but in the rosy morning light, the world suddenly seemed less daunting.

We had time to kill before the gate was scheduled to be unlocked and set us free so we ventured up a nearby trail that snaked through the desert's rolling hills. We hiked past cactus the size of maple trees and even more mid-sized cactus that, as Lauryn learned, did indeed jump into your flesh if you got too close.

As we marveled over the flora and fauna two Northwest gals could only dream of, we heard a voice up ahead! We turned a corner to see a man with a hiking pack on walking our direction. He spotted us, turned in the opposite direction and sprinted away.

We honestly have no explanation for this. We did, however, know that this was our cue to turn back and get the hell out of this godforsaken mountain cave park.

First stop? The grocery store.
